SAYING GOODBYE…

Saying goodbye is part of the deal, part of leading an expat life; we experienced from both sides.

Of course when we left Belgium it was the biggest step for us as a family. We threw a ‘fare-well / till-we-meet-again-party’ for family and friends. An evening we will not easily forget. It was heartwarming and we really enjoyed a lot. The importance of making memories is something that became more and more clear to me!

JOY TO THE WORLD…

It’s December,

The month to celebrate, at least for a lot of people.

As a kid December was a very exciting month. The beginning period was all about whether we behaved well enough so Sinterklaas would pay a visit to hand us gifts on HIS birthday. Yes, that was a strange thing… when we had birthday we would receive presents instead of giving them away. But of course no objection to that! Such a kind man; the least we could do was singing and making a lot of drawings and write how great he and his helpers were. (Not knowing that our parents were taking those out of our shoes and replaced them with some candy or small gift.)

What if you only had to play the part of a mother? That is complicated enough as it is! It’s a full-time job to take care of everything and everyone around you. Especially when you always want it to be perfect.

You most likely have numerous roles; that of worker, partner, friend, workout buddy, teammate and maybe even carer. ‘Last but not least’, there is also you. With your own wishes, needs and responsibilities.

It is tough to be a mother!!!

I have been a mother for about 8 years now. During this time, I have often found it difficult to be a working mother. How was I meant to juggle everything without dropping the ball? I’ve never been a circus act and I have never been one for juggling. I worked in mental healthcare. This might sound a bit stereotypical but I was surrounded by women of whom several were working mothers, just like me.
